The University of Salamanca, founded in 1218 and one of the oldest Universities in Europe, is today a modern European University, open to the culture of practically every branch of teaching (social, biomedical, human, experimental and formal sciences) and with a strong international engagement documented both in the cooperation agreements in force with over 300 institutions around the world and in the participation of its researchers in several international projects and initiatives.
The Research GRoup on InterAction and eLearning (GRIAL) is part of the VALUE project on behalf of the USAL. GRIAL is an official and stable research group, selected as an Excellent Research Group by the Junta de Castilla y León and directed by Francisco José García Peñalvo, Computer Science Department Professor. The group is made up of an interdisciplinary team, with researchers belonging to different areas, from ICT to Didactics, Computer Science, Philosophy, Linguistics, etc., as well as project management experts. GRIAL is also part of the University Institute of Educational Sciences (IUCE). Throughout the IUCE activities GRIAL develops many training actions and studies related to didactical and methodological innovations, as so as ICT and media literacy. GRIAL research trajectory in recent years ranges from areas of purely technical study of Information Technology to the development of teaching methods and models in the field of online learning internationally recognized and rewarded. In particular the main research activities of the group, since 2008 to the present time, have been addressed to the improvement of technological ecosystems for enhancing multiculturality in formal and informal learning scenarios (http://2016.teemconference.eu/). From the methodological point of view the design and development of tutoring and mentoring models in different contexts (school, higher education, VET), also with target groups at risk of early school leaving or social exclusion, has to be stressed.
